240 Mph Wooden Supercar
I bet you don’t believe me, but it is true! The car presented in the feature images is really made out of wood: plywood, maple and MDF. It is the creation of designer Joe Harmon, a North Carolina State University student who worked with fellow undergraduate designers to create the world’s first wooden supercar.
Harmon declared: “We aren’t trying to sell anything, we aren’t trying to save the world, and we aren’t advocating that everyone should drive a wooden car. This project is a scholastic endeavour in which we are simply trying to explore materials, learn, teach, share ideas and stimulate creativity.”
This car power comes from a 4.6 liter V8 petrol engine, centrally mounted for perfect balance and producing 600 bhp. This is linked to a 6 speed manual gearbox, largely made of wood, of course. The 15 ft-long Splinter can easily hit 0-60 mph in just over 3 seconds.
The advantage of the wooden construction is the weight, because at 1,135 kg the two-seater Splinter weighs 260 kg less than the stripped-out Porsche 911 GT3, and will average 20 mpg thanks to its slippery aerodynamic shape. Would you like to buy one?

I’d be scared the heasut from the maniolds would turn the car into a 240mph torch..
Which would still be pretty damn cool!
