BMW a live legend – Part 2

First BMW produced in Berlin

BMW engineers developed a new body for the car, fully made-it by steel, also based on a small Rosengart car produced under license in France.

BMW was renting the Ambi-Bud factory building in Berlin and used that to produce the first berlin BMW. Starting with March, 1929 the first models BMW 3/15 PS were leaving this factory (that was near the old Berlin-Johannisthal Airport) and were ready to be sold truth BMW dealers.

BMW 3/15 PS model was very appreciated by the audience and all the newspaper were writing about it, in 1929 immediately after the launch was the winner of the International 5 days tour that was surpassing all important alpines canyons. Thanks to its viability, fuel economy and reasonable price, more and more people decided to buy this car: a 6 litre/100 km consume made this car the most economic car (even economic than the train). So, BMW was considered cheaply than its rivals from Hanomag and could be obtain at the same price as the most sold car in that time- Opel Laubfrosch.

Not long time since the 2 doors model was presented, they started to produce break model in Eisenach factory. The body was built conventionally in a combination of wood with artificial leather. Until the spring of 1930, BMW was enlarging its small cars portfolio, with new models and a 2 sport seats model, a 2 seats model, one with 4 convertible seats and a van. Latter, BMW added on its production line sport car “Wartburg” (maximum power of 18 hp) and a coupe. Starting with Series DA4 model in 1931, BMW added new technologies and a facelift, too.

In a short period, BMW manage to offer its clients a diversified line of small cars, answering to their needs. Almost 16,000 pieces were sold from this model until its life circle end, in 1932.
