Datsun 240Z

3 days ago I’ve started to write about few cars I wish I’ve bought. The series is composed (until now) by: Lancia Delta Integrale, Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.8 Campaign. Now is about the Datsun 240Z.

Why Datsun 240Z?

Datsun 240Z is a car that always attract me (my eyes, especially) because it has a great look, something between a Jaguar E-Type, a Ford Mustang and a Ferrari Daytona. Great combination, isn’t it? This model was launched in 1969 with a rear wheel drive handling and with 2.4 liter straight 6 engine, making an ideal muscle car. It seems that if you try to look for an original model, it is very hard to find one. That means that I’m not the only person who likes this beauty!

In the next article, the car I wish I’ve bought is Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi.

I promised myself in 1972 that I would have a 240Z at some time but never really thought that it would happen.
It happened when I came across an ex-circuit race car in 1997 and was available at 4000 pounds. I converted it into a tarmac rally car and used it twice (beating a Porsche 911 easily on the first outing) before getting myself employed in the Gulf and had to dispose of it.
Happy days. VERY happy days. Straight 6 2.5 engine (slight overbore) at 8500 rpm on a competition exhaust system was … tingling.
