Porsche Cayenne Hybrid S

Porsche revealed its production Cayenne Hybrid S in November 2007 at the L.A. Auto Show, but has been relatively quite on the subject ever since. But the German producer has now broken the silence, giving us some details of the more fuel-efficient system.

Porsche says the Cayenne Hybrid S will offer V8 power with four-cylinder efficiency, and by the looks of the numbers, it could be spot on. The Cayenne Hybrid S will use an Audi-sourced 3.0L V6 — developing 333 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque — with an electric motor contributing another 52 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. That should be enough grunt to get the Cayenne Hybrid S from 0-60 in a typically un-eco-friendly 6.8 seconds.

Despite its high-performance aspiration, the Cayenne Hybrid S will have 20 percent less CO2 emissions than its gasoline counterpart — good enough to qualify it as an ULEV II. Porsche hasn’t released official fuel economy figures for the Cayenne Hybrid S yet, but early reports suggest the SUV could hit 32 mpg on the highway — 10 mpg better than the V6-powered Cayenne.
