SSC Aero at 273 mph
SSC Aero manufactured by Shelby Super Cars (SSC), an USA brand, wants to outrun the world speed record from the 253 mph Bugatti Veyron. SSC Aero’s mid engine, rear wheel drive super car is powered by a 6.3 litre twin turbocharged and intercooled bespoke V8 boasting 1,183 bhp and 1,094 lb/ft of torque.
That means that the car can get from 0 to 60 mph in 2.78 seconds, having a top speed of 273 mph, beating the Bugatti Veyron with 20 mph. What is strange is that the car’s speedometer reads only until 260 mph, but maybe at that speed nobody can check.
I understand that the car can reach a high speed, but how can you stop it? Well, the model has a huge 14 inch brake discs, grabbed by 8 piston callipers up front and 6 pistons at the rear. The interior is made by leather and appointed with air conditioning system, a 10 speaker audio system, including DVD player and satellite navigator and a screen for the reversing camera. Aero SSC has also a front end lift function which can develop the nose 4 inches to help it clear obstacles.
To make us sure that SSC is a real success, the company engaged MKM Racing to oversee a world production speed record along a close stretch of highway in Nevada, USA.
