VW IROC News- Green Viper

Do you remember old Scirocco? I surely don’t! :) But I think there are many of you who remember the year 1976, the year of this Metallic Green Viper: Volkswagen Scirocco.

Scirocco looks the best in green colour. It’s designed by Giugiaro 33 years ago and made after Golf MkI. Scirocco has been a real success for VW. There have been over 500,000 cars sold in entire World. VW hopes to have now at least as much success it had with the first model.

If you watch this outstanding car you certainly say: “Oh, that’s not for sale! It’s only a prototype to show how great the imagination of the designers is!” But I assure you that this beautiful car is for sale!

The car is built on Golf GTI platform in combination with Eos and Passat. Almost everything it’s taken from Golf: gas tank, suspensions, engine, transmission and many others. Iroc it’s a Golf Coupe in perfect shape!

Iroc has TSI propulsion, 1.4 litre engine and 210 hp, 6 speeds transmission. And what is great is that the price will be under Audi’s TT price.

Scirocco is a concept of VW department from Wolfsburg managed by Marc Lichte. The radiator’s grating form is absolutely new for Volkswagen. See how the aluminium forms prolong headlights style coming across with the capote. It is a very “nervous” front part. The ceiling is long and flat, that means that the car will have enough space for the head and shoulders, especially for the bottom seats. The knee space is enough, too. Car’s rear boot is also big, having 300 l, with 100 less than the 3 doors Golf.

Volkswagen manager, Wolfgang Bernard is very attached to this car and that means that the designers will win the fight with the economists. Let’s hope that! Volkswagen must keep all expensive elements, but to also stay at a reasonable price. This little Golf Coupe will make “waves”, especially in USA, because is quite easy to imagine yourself “flying” on Los Angeles roads.

Wow!! The hope that the Scirocco may come back in 2008 is the best news I have heard. I LOVED my 1988 16V Scirocco. A compact sporty high performance car with plenty of interior cargo space! If you find out the technical specs on this concept car and the proposed interior cargo space, please post.
