Seat Ibiza Bocanegra Road Tests

Seat is coming with something very unusual. Not for the first time but this movement is right up there. It’s introduction the new Ibiza Cupra, its greatest hatch, and aboard it selling this, the Bocanegra. Same technical hotness, but with marginally hotter design.

Bocanegra means ‘black mouth’, a mention to an old Seat, the 1200 Sport, which won cult status in late 70′ Spain thanks in no small part to its black front end.

The Bocanegra applies the exact same 178bhp power plant as the Cupra, with the identical slick-seven speed DSG common fit, but has minor decorative tweakery such as faux-carbon inside trim and a worthless ‘B’ padded into the seat backs that simply guarantees you can’t order one with leather upholstery even though it’s the flagship example.

Externally there’s more breadth to the airdams, a base central, trapezoidal exhaust and the deal-breaking black front end, which in the new car is a lot less amazing.

Finally what you have here is £15,995 Cupra with the £700 cost choice of a extended and ultimately strange cultural extension. Seat reckons it’s going to be a collectors’ item.
